2007 South L.A. Earth Fest
Comedian Rodney Perry hosts this massive event includes screenings of former Vice President and presidential candidate Al Gore’s critically acclaimed environmental documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” and Spike Lee’s phenomenal Katrina Hurricane documentary, “When the Levies Broke” in Baldwin Hills Park. There will be food, fun, comedy, gospel and jazz music.
Also, California Greenworks, along with ARC International and 1-800-GOT-JUNK, provide a free electronic waste (e-waste) pavilion to collect consumer electronic equipment near the end of their “useful life.” Bring items like computer monitors, televisions, personal computers, printers, copiers, scanners, toner cartridges, fax machines, PDAs, power supplies, main frame units, networking equipment, mother board systems, VCR and DVD players, home entertainment systems and landline and cellular phones to help to reduce e-waste in our community and divert e-waste from our landfills. Learn some urban gardening tips possibly even win a free tree.

Vroman's Earth Day Celebration

Splash! A Celebration of Mermaids and the Sea Festival
Check out this grand art, mermaids, and the environmental festival! Activities include a parade, art workshops, water-science attractions including sea creature touch tanks, food/vendor booths and more! This event is in coordination with the "Mami Wata: Arts for Water Spirits in Africa and Its Diasporas" exhibition at the Fowler Museum at UCLA and features performances by dance sensation Viver Brasil and Congo-inspired Balobi. All day art workshops creating exquisite mermaid crowns of shells, paper flowers, beautiful hand mirrors, and noisy rain sticks… Heal the Bay provides water-science attractions including touch tanks brimming with sea stars, crabs, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers, and a walkthrough “kelp forest.”

How To Build A Lowrider: FROM ESSENTIAL TO EXTREME
Petersen Automotive Museum presents this rare workshop celebrating the brilliant lowrider craftsmanship in partnership with their La Vida Lowrider: Cruising the City of Angels exhibit. Check out the custom paint, muraling, glass and metal etching, hydraulics and more, and learn more about the creative process of customizing a lowrider. Technical Editor of Lowrider Magazine Saul Vargas moderates a panel featuring award-winning artists like Ted Wells, Fonzy, Doc, Bob Mercado, Albert De Alba and Hernan D’Aloia. Right after the symposium, experience a LIVE lowrider hopping demonstration. Local lowrider car clubs will be on hand as they cruise to the Museum for a public display and gathering.

Forgotten Legacy: The Afro-Mexican Story On Film – Back By Popular Demand!
This is a rare screening of the documentary films La Raiz Olvidada/The Forgotten Root and La Tercera Raiz/The Third Root focusing on the hidden African Diaspora in Mexico. The screening is in coordination with The African Presence In México: From Yanga To The Present fabulous exhibit at CAAM until June 1st, heading on an international tour afterwards. Film Director Rafael Rebollar shows us how the African presence has been integral to Mexican history and culture.

5th Annual Fracas! Improv Festival
Sponsored by The Onion, this is the nation's largest purely intercollegiate improv festival attended by 18 college troupes from across the country and the United Kingdom. Workshops and panels led by Ed Helms (The Office, The Daily Show), Tim Bagley (Monk, Walk Hard), Kaitlin Olson (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Riches), Seth Morris (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Chapelle's Show), and Sean Conroy (Crossballs). This is the only improv festival in the nation where all performers must be college students, including performers from the University of Kent (London), Swarthmore College (PA), University of Chicago (IL), and The Ohio State University, and local schools.

5th Annual Bent Fest - Festival of Circuit Bending
Grand Performances and The Tank present this festival of hardware hacking, DIY electronics, and circuit bending (the short-circuiting of battery-powered children's toys to create new musical instruments.) This event also includes artists who create instruments and artwork from scratch using homemade circuitry. It hosts 18 artists from eight countries for the 3 night performance series gratis and the minimally priced Friday & Saturday afternoon workshops educate people interested in getting their hands dirty or just understanding the science behind the art! There’s even a shuttle service will begin after Saturday Night's performance at Grand Performances to Zero Point for the closing party!
