From there, they quickly cruise over to the Eco-Home and embark on a self-guided tour of this ongoing livingresearch center, followed by a group Q&A with the homestead owner. On the way back, we'll swing by the Bicycle Kitchen and introduce people to this energetic community-run bike repair space, and meet with some of the "cooks" that help create bike-magic at the Kitchen.

Inscribing Meaning: Writing and Graphic Systems in African Art
This exhibit brings together both tradition-based and contemporary African arts to illustrate the interface between African art and the communicative power of graphic systems, language, and the written word. Explore the multiple messages and aesthetic intent of approximately ninety-five exceptional works—dating from ancient to contemporary times—that creatively incorporate script both for its literal content as well as the beauty of its form. This exhibition is in collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art and the Fowler Museum at UCLA.

Ongoing::
Intersections: World Arts, Local Lives
Enjoy one of our nation’s most important collections of art from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas in Intersections: World Arts, Local Lives, which features approximately 250 of the finest objects from the Fowler’s collections in a long-term exhibition that celebrates the richness of world arts and considers the roles these works of art play in peoples’ lives. The gallery within the gallery, called Fowler in Focus, is dedicated to a rotating installation of new acquisitions, special collections, and particular artistic genres. The opening Fowler in Focus exhibition, Flames of Devotion: Oil Lamps from South and Southeast Asia, is a selection of approximately fifty remarkable metal lamps and incense burners.

On Permanent Display:
Reflecting Culture: The Francis E. Fowler, Jr. Collection of Silver
Comprising 251 objects representing 16th through 19th century Europe, Great Britain and the United States, this exhibition interprets silver in its social contexts. Gleaming vessels from renowned workshops—such as those of British silversmith Paul de Lamerie (c.1800), Russian jeweler Karl Fabergé (c.1900), and American patriot silversmith Paul Revere (c.1760)—highlight important styles and techniques.
