Friday, January 11th, 2008 "The Legacy of Torture " Documentary
The film and an extraordinary speakers panel tonight about the targeting of former members of the Black Panther Party (BPP) for their political activities of 35 years ago and the current vindictive SF prosecution of 8 former members on conspiracy charges for events from 1968 to 1973. Through interviews and reenactment of the torture, the docudrama vividly enacts the 1973 torture of 3 of its members in 1973 by the New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco and FBI law enforcement agencies. California courts in 1974 determined that these men had in fact been tortured. The speakers panel will include the elders who refused to testify, were imprisoned, and now are faced with conspiracy charges in SF, including Harold Taylor who was tortured in 1973, Claude Marx, the director, John Philisborn, the attorney for the SF 8, and Danny Glover who has been outspoken in his condemnation of this torture and these retaliatory prosecutions.
