EXHIBIT: IN MOTION: THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MIGRATION EXPERIENCE
This traveling exhibition, started at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Studies in New York, is quite unique. It provides a new paradigm of African American culturally historical experience. It focuses on the self-sufficient and –motivated these strivers to reinvent themselves and their worlds. Beyond the dominant trans-Atlantic slave trade image, there were Blacks whose voluntary movements were resourceful creative men and women, pioneers and risk-takers in an impossible environment. Their survival skills, cohesive networks and dynamic culture enabled them to thrive and spread. These forefathers and foremothers were the very core of the progress of the Americas. Their indomitable faith and efforts have forever impacted the American political and socio-cultural landscape and the world at large. This is truly an all-American story.
